Story by Eugene Nyarko Jnr. l Accra l Thursday, October 29, 2026 —

The Oil Palm Development Association of Ghana (OPDAG), in collaboration with the Africa Entrepreneurs Alliance, is set to spotlight a US$500 million investment opportunity in Ghana’s oil palm industry at its 2026 Annual Conference scheduled for November 7 and 8.

The two-day conference will focus on mobilising investment, promoting entrepreneurship, empowering women, improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and advancing sustainable growth across the oil palm value chain.

Under the theme, “Transforming Ghana’s Oil Palm Industry: Unlocking the US$500 Million Investment Opportunity for Entrepreneurship, Women’s Empowerment, Smallholder Prosperity and Sustainable Growth,” the event is expected to bring together industry stakeholders to explore strategies for expanding production, strengthening processing capacity and increasing local value addition.

Oil palm remains an important agricultural commodity in Ghana, supporting farming communities, processing businesses, traders and other enterprises. However, unlocking the sector’s full economic potential will require increased investment, improved productivity, stronger market linkages and expanded opportunities for local entrepreneurs.

The conference is expected to provide a platform for discussions on mobilising capital to expand production, strengthen domestic processing, create employment and improve the competitiveness of Ghana’s oil palm industry.

Women, smallholder farmers in focus

Women and smallholder farmers are expected to feature prominently in discussions on the future of the industry.

Women play important roles across the oil palm value chain, including production, processing, trading and enterprise development. Improved access to finance, markets, technology and business opportunities could strengthen their participation and enhance their economic prospects.

Smallholder farmers, who contribute to agricultural production and support rural livelihoods, also stand to benefit from improved farming systems, better market access and stronger relationships with processors.

OPDAG and the Africa Entrepreneurs Alliance are seeking to place inclusive development at the centre of efforts to attract investment and promote sustainable growth in the sector.

The conference theme reflects the need to ensure that investment opportunities translate into tangible benefits for farmers, women, entrepreneurs and communities involved in the oil palm value chain.

Two-day conference in Accra

The first day of the conference will take place on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The second day is scheduled for Sunday, November 8, 2026, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), beginning at 4:00 p.m.

According to the organisers, the programme is expected to facilitate engagement among industry players, investors, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders interested in the development of Ghana’s oil palm industry.

The gathering also comes amid broader efforts to strengthen domestic agricultural production, create employment and expand value addition as part of Ghana’s economic development agenda.

The organisers are encouraging industry participants, business leaders, development partners and the media to participate in the discussions and follow official OPDAG communication channels for further information.

The 2026 Annual Conference is expected to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to examine practical approaches to unlocking investment, strengthening local enterprises and building a more inclusive and sustainable oil palm industry.
