The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that nominations for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections will open on Monday, September 9, and close on Friday, September 13.

This process follows Regulations 6, 7, and 9 of the 2020 Public Elections Regulations (C.I 127).

In a press release issued in Accra on August 1, the EC detailed the nomination procedure.

Interested candidates can download nomination forms from the EC’s website starting Friday, August 2.

The filing fee for presidential candidates is set at GH¢100,000, with a reduced fee of GH¢75,000 for female candidates and persons with disabilities.

Nomination forms will be accepted between 9:00 am and 12:00 noon, and again from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm each day during the nomination period.

Presidential candidates must make a payment of GH¢100,000 at the time of submitting their nomination forms, using a banker’s draft addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission. Female candidates and persons with disabilities are required to pay GH¢75,000.

For parliamentary candidates, the filing fee is GH¢10,000, with a reduced fee of GH¢7,500 for female candidates and persons with disabilities.

Payments for parliamentary nominations should also be made by banker’s draft, addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, and submitted to the Returning Officer of the respective constituency.

The EC emphasized that all inquiries related to the presidential elections should be directed to the EC Chairperson, while questions about the parliamentary elections should be addressed to the Returning Officers of the constituencies where the candidates seek election.

In a subsequent statement, the EC requested that individuals intending to contest the 2024 elections as independent candidates contact the Commission for passcodes, which will enable them to download the nomination forms.
