More than 50 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairpersons, together with leaders of various identifiable groups, have picked nomination forms for former Energy Minister, Hon. Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, to contest the position of National Chairman of the party.

The move, which took place at the NPP National Headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, has been described by the supporters as a strong demonstration of grassroots confidence in Mr. Agyarko’s ability to lead the party’s reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The action also marks a significant step in Mr. Agyarko’s campaign for the National Chairmanship position, following an earlier call by a group of NPP Constituency Chairpersons for him to take up the challenge of leading the party.

It would be recalled that at a conference of NPP Constituency Chairpersons held in Kumasi in 2025, the party’s grassroots leadership called on Mr. Agyarko to lead efforts to reorganise and strengthen the party.

The nomination forms were subsequently picked amid a gathering of party activists, supporters and members of the media.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation after picking the forms, the NPP Chairman for Cape Coast North Constituency, Mr. Stephen Kojo Arhin, said the decision was driven by the need for effective leadership capable of rebuilding the party’s grassroots structures and positioning the NPP for victory in 2028.

He said the party required a National Chairman with the vision, discipline and strategic capacity to unite the rank and file and provide the leadership necessary for the party’s return to power.

According to him, Mr. Agyarko remained one of the most experienced strategists available to the party at a critical period in its history.

“The NPP needs more than just a party Chairman; we require a leader with the vision, discipline, and strategic depth to unify our ranks and rebuild the grassroots in support of our flagbearer. Hon. Boakye Agyarko is the most experienced strategist for this critical moment in our history,” Mr. Arhin said.

He added that the campaign was intended to strengthen the party’s organisational structures and help create the conditions for the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to secure victory in the 2028 presidential election.

Responding to the gesture, Mr. Agyarko expressed gratitude to the Constituency Chairpersons, identifiable groups and other supporters for their confidence in his leadership.

He pledged that, if elected National Chairman, he would work to build a stronger and more united NPP capable of supporting Dr. Bawumia’s presidential bid while also securing a parliamentary majority for the party in 2028.

The campaign team said the support demonstrated by the Constituency Chairpersons and other groups represented a growing movement focused on rebuilding the NPP from the grassroots.

It expressed appreciation to supporters across the country for their contributions, commitment and prayers towards what it described as a campaign for a stronger, more united and electorally competitive NPP.
