Former Energy Minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Boakye Agyarko, has concluded the first phase of his nationwide campaign tour in the Greater Accra Region, becoming the 16th region he has visited as part of his campaign efforts.
Mr Agyarko said his campaign remained focused on rebuilding the NPP’s electoral fortunes, particularly by reclaiming parliamentary seats lost by the party and strengthening the party’s electoral machinery ahead of the 2028 general election.
He said the ultimate objective was to help position Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to win the 2028 presidential election, stressing that the NPP must first undertake serious organisational work at the constituency level to achieve that goal.
Addressing party executives during his tour of Greater Accra, Mr Agyarko demonstrated an understanding of the region’s demographic and geopolitical complexities and emphasised that the NPP could not win the presidency without securing a strong electoral performance in the capital.
He noted that the constituencies within Greater Accra differed significantly in their demographic composition, political dynamics and challenges, and therefore required carefully designed strategies rather than a uniform approach.
According to him, winning the region would require a deeper understanding of local conditions and the deployment of strategies specifically tailored to the peculiarities of individual constituencies.
Mr Agyarko also outlined his proposed welfare policy for party officers, saying the policy would focus on training, empowering and adequately resourcing party executives to enable them to effectively perform their responsibilities.
He said logistical and operational support would be provided based on the specific needs of constituencies, with resources released in a timely manner to ensure that they could make the desired impact.
He stressed that resources delivered after an electoral opportunity had passed would serve little purpose, and therefore promised a system that would ensure that constituencies received the support they needed when it mattered most.
Mr Agyarko maintained that electoral success in Greater Accra could not be achieved through slogans alone, but required a combination of local knowledge, competent party officers, timely logistical support and constituency-specific campaign strategies.
At the end of his Greater Accra tour, Mr Agyarko expressed his appreciation to the Regional and Constituency Executives for the warm reception accorded him and for the numerous endorsements received during the tour.
He said the support demonstrated by party executives strengthened his resolve to continue engaging the grassroots and working towards rebuilding the party’s structures ahead of the 2028 elections.
