Female Journalist Advocates Farming as a Sustainable Income Source for Media Professionals

A young and promising female journalist, Mispa Sekyibea Apem Darko, has called on media practitioners in Ghana to consider farming as a supplementary source of livelihood, citing its financial sustainability and long-term benefits.

Speaking in an interview with Elder Isaac Mensah of Oman FM at her one-acre rice farm in Obrayeko, in the Awutu Senya West Municipality, Mispa shared her personal journey into agriculture and highlighted the economic opportunities the sector offers.

According to her, farming remains one of the easiest and most reliable ways to earn a living and help support one’s family. She noted that although she is an experienced journalist and could choose not to work actively in the media, she understands that relying solely on journalism may not guarantee future financial security.

Mispa explained that her involvement in agriculture is a strategic step towards achieving her long-term dreams and financial independence. She therefore encouraged Ghanaian youth, especially those in the media profession, to see farming as a viable and rewarding career option.

Her rice farm, she said, stands as proof of her belief in agriculture’s potential to transform lives, and she expressed hope that her example would inspire others to embrace farming as a complementary or alternative profession.
