Gospel Star Ewura Abena Becomes DOVVSU Brand Ambassador, Leads “Break the Silence” Campaign

Ghanaian gospel musician Ewura Abena has officially joined the fight against gender-based violence as the Brand Ambassador for the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service.

She was unveiled at a press briefing themed “Break the Silence Concept” at DOVVSU’s National Headquarters in Accra.

“It’s more than a deal – it’s a calling”

Sharing her passion for the cause, Ewura Abena said the role goes beyond prestige or financial gain.

“To someone it may be an ambassadorial deal, but to me, it’s a ministerial appointment,” she said. “Gender-based violence is never right, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring hope to survivors. The joy I see on their faces is worth more than any money.”

The gospel artiste revealed that her hit song ‘Ebefa’ has been selected as the official campaign song for DOVVSU’s “Break the Silence” initiative, which seeks to encourage victims to speak out and seek help.

“Break the Silence Concert” set for November 29

Ewura Abena announced plans for a major awareness event dubbed the “Break the Silence Concert”, scheduled for November 29, 2025, in Accra.

The concert, which replaces her usual Grace Overflow Concert in Ghana, will bring together gospel musicians to advocate against domestic and gender-based violence while educating attendees about available support systems.

DOVVSU: “Even one case is too many”

Director of DOVVSU, ACP Owusuwaa Kyeremeh, said Ewura Abena’s appointment was a natural fit given her consistent message of hope and compassion.

“When we researched her background, we saw her advocacy aligns perfectly with DOVVSU’s work,” ACP Kyeremeh said. “Even if one person is raped or assaulted, it’s still a serious issue. We can’t achieve national development while gender-based violence persists.”

She emphasized that while reported cases have decreased since 2020, the numbers remain troublingly high.

“Breaking the silence means encouraging survivors and communities to speak up without fear of stigma or judgment,” she added.

DOVVSU’s ongoing initiatives include community outreach, advocacy in schools and churches, and the upcoming launch of a podcast to educate the public about gender-based violence and available support services.
