Kotoko Crucify Hearts Again, Ending their Unbeaten Run to Reassert Derby Dominance

Asante Kotoko claimed the bragging rights in Ghana’s fiercest football rivalry after securing a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, extending their unbeaten run in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

The Super Clash lived up to its billing, delivering end-to-end action, tension, and missed opportunities as both sides created numerous chances but struggled with their finishing.

Kotoko dominated the first half with purposeful play and superior possession, while Hearts of Oak came alive after the break, pressing hard for an equalizer.

The decisive moment came in the 44th minute when Guinean forward Morifin Donzo calmly converted from the penalty spot after Yaw Amankwah Baafi fouled Peter Amidu in the box.

Hearts thought they had drawn level late in the game when Mawuli Wayo found the back of the net, but his effort was ruled offside, sparking frustration among the home fans.

Prior to the clash, Hearts had gone eight matches unbeaten—winning four and drawing four—and were confident of continuing their fine form. But Kotoko, tactically disciplined and hungry for redemption, ended their nine-year winless streak against the Phobians in Accra, marking their first league victory at the venue since 2016.

The result was also a morale booster for the Porcupine Warriors, who are bouncing back strongly after their CAF Confederation Cup exit to WAC. They have now registered back-to-back league wins following that disappointment.

The win lifts Kotoko to 7th position on the league table with 14 points, while Hearts of Oak drop to 5th with 16 points, just two ahead of their archrivals.

For the Kotoko faithful, the victory meant more than just three points—it symbolized redemption, relief, and revival.
