Weija-Gbawe NPP Elections Committee Rejects Allegations of Electoral Irregularities

The Weija-Gbawe Constituency Elections Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rejected allegations of electoral irregularities surrounding the recently conducted Polling Station and Electoral Area Elections, insisting that the process was conducted fairly, transparently and in accordance with the Party’s Constitution and Electoral Guidelines.
The Committee’s official response was read by Sarpei Julius, a member of the NPP Electoral Committee, at the forecourt of the Member of Parliament’s office in the constituency.
The Committee said it had taken note of concerns raised at a recent press conference but stressed that although party members had the right to seek redress through the appropriate party structures, the allegations did not invalidate a process it described as properly conducted.
It stated that it recognised no factions within the Weija-Gbawe Constituency, adding that all decisions throughout the electoral process were guided solely by the Party’s rules and procedures.
The Committee further noted that some of those raising concerns were unsuccessful candidates in the recent elections, but said disappointment over an electoral outcome alone could not be used to invalidate a process conducted in accordance with the Party’s rules.
On allegations that delegates’ albums or ballot materials contained markings or identifiers, the Committee unequivocally denied the claims and challenged anyone with credible evidence to present it through the appropriate party structures for independent verification.
It also clarified that omissions from the delegates’ album resulted from the application of approved eligibility criteria, including inactivity, non-residence within the relevant Electoral Area, illness, death and other legitimate considerations.
According to the Committee, fewer than 100 persons were affected by such omissions, and it challenged those alleging that more than 500 members had been excluded to produce credible evidence or stop propagating what it described as falsehoods.
The Committee further explained that ballot positions were allocated strictly on a first-come, first-served basis, in line with administrative arrangements communicated to all aspirants.
On claims that the elections should have been suspended or postponed, the Committee said it had not received any official directive, correspondence or communication from the Regional or National Party, or any court of competent jurisdiction, instructing it to suspend, postpone or injunct the constituency elections.
It therefore maintained that the elections were conducted on the basis of the directives officially available to the Committee at the time.
The Committee, however, alleged that some unidentified individuals engaged in criminal conduct by forging a document purported to have emanated from the Acting National Chairman in an attempt to injunct or suspend the elections.
It further alleged that the same individuals manufactured a purported court injunction, despite there being no such order.
The Committee said the internal electoral process had since been conducted, concluded and duly endorsed with the full compliments of National and Regional representatives acting under the authority of the NPP.
It consequently maintained that it had discharged its mandate fairly, impartially and in accordance with the Party’s Constitution and Electoral Guidelines.
The Committee called on all members to put the internal elections behind them, close ranks and work towards strengthening the Party’s structures.
It said the NPP’s real contest was not within itself but with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The Weija-Gbawe Constituency Elections Committee therefore urged all Patriots to unite in the common cause of building a stronger Party capable of retaining the Weija-Gbawe Constituency and returning the NPP to government in 2028.
