Interior Ministry Launches Comprehensive Online Digital Services Portal

Story by Eugene Nyarko Jnr. I Accra | December 10, 2025

The Ministry of the Interior has taken another major step in Ghana’s national digital transformation agenda with the launch of its Online Digital Services Portal, a platform designed to modernize service delivery, enhance transparency, and improve citizen access to key interior-related services.

Speaking at the launch held at the Information Services Department Press Conference Room in Accra, the Minister for the Interior, Honourable Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, described the initiative as a significant milestone in government’s broader vision of building a modern, secure, and inclusive digital economy under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.

The new portal follows the successful rollout of a centralized e-recruitment system for all Security Services just three weeks earlier. That platform has streamlined recruitment for the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ghana Immigration Service by ensuring fairness, efficiency, and accessibility.

Hon. Mohammed-Mubarak emphasized that the latest digital services platform reflects the Ministry’s commitment to improving operational efficiency and strengthening citizen engagement. “These initiatives demonstrate our unwavering commitment to leveraging technology to improve service delivery,” he said, noting that digitalisation has become a central pillar of national development.

For decades, the Ministry has managed several critical functions—from migration and citizenship management to national security regulation—but many of these services have relied on manual processes that slowed delivery and burdened applicants. The new platform, he noted, is designed to eliminate such challenges while ensuring data integrity and security.

Services on the Digital Portal

The platform hosts a wide range of services across three main categories:

1. Citizenship and Migration Services
These include applications for immigrant quota permits, renunciation of citizenship, dual nationality, naturalization, and registration of minors. Integration with the National Identification Authority (NIA) ensures efficient verification and faster processing.

2. Security and Regulatory Services
Digitized processes now cover licensing of private security organizations, arms and ammunition import/export permits, explosives permits, firearm licensing, auctioneer’s licences, and key-cutting permits. The Minister stressed that digitalising these services enhances transparency and strengthens national regulatory mechanisms.

3. Specialized Services
This includes the exportation of dead bodies, a sensitive service now streamlined to reduce delays and ensure proper verification.

Benefits of the Digital Platform

Hon. Mohammed-Mubarak highlighted key advantages of the new system:

  • Convenience: Applicants can access and submit applications online anytime and from anywhere.
  • Transparency: Real-time tracking features offer clear visibility of application progress.
  • Data Security: Integration with national databases protects against identity fraud.
  • Revenue Assurance: Automated payments improve IGF mobilisation and eliminate leakages.
  • Strengthened National Security: Digital records enhance monitoring of explosives, firearms, and private security operations.

The Minister commended the strong collaboration between the Ministry, its security agencies, and technical partners for successfully delivering the project.

He encouraged the public, private sector, diaspora, and international partners to begin using the platform when it becomes fully operational on Monday, 15th December 2025.

Hon. Mohammed-Mubarak concluded by officially launching the Ministry of the Interior Online Digital Services Portal, after which the technical team conducted a demonstration of the platform’s features and user experience.

The launch marks a decisive advancement in the Ministry’s modernization agenda and positions Ghana firmly on the path toward a digitally empowered governance system.
