Story by Eugene Nyarko Jnr. l Accra l March 30, 2026

The Ghana Police Service has intensified its crackdown on cybercrime, violent offences and organised robbery, leading to multiple arrests across the country in a series of coordinated intelligence-led operations.

Addressing a press briefing at the National Police Headquarters in Accra, the Director-General of the Public Affairs Directorate (PAD), DCOP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, outlined four major breakthroughs by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team and the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit.

Two Arrested Over Deepfake Attacks on President, First Lady

Police have arrested two suspects for allegedly creating and circulating artificial intelligence-generated deepfake content targeting President John Dramani Mahama and the First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Mahama.

The suspects, Bernard Mensah, also known as “Charity Quaicoe,” and Michael Ebo Safo, were picked up on March 28, 2026, following digital forensic investigations and surveillance operations.

According to the police, the suspects used manipulated videos and impersonation accounts across Facebook, TikTok and WhatsApp to defraud unsuspecting citizens through coordinated disinformation campaigns.

Mensah was initially traced to Kasoa and later arrested at Kokrobite, while Safo was apprehended at a funeral in the Central Region after hours of surveillance.

Both suspects are in custody assisting investigations. The Police Service cautioned that the creation and dissemination of deepfake content is a criminal offence and warned the public to verify information before sharing.

Man Arrested for Threatening High Court Judge

In a separate case, the police have arrested 49-year-old John Kwabena Owusu-Ansah for threatening a High Court judge in a viral video.

The arrest followed a petition by the Judicial Service of Ghana after the video, which contained threats and abusive language against Justice Patricia Quansah, circulated widely on social media platforms.

Owusu-Ansah was arrested at his hideout at Antoakrom in the Ashanti Region on March 27, 2026, and remains in custody pending prosecution.

Suspect Arrested in Suhum Murder Case

Police have also arrested Eric Kenny, 40, in connection with the murder of 56-year-old Enoch Obiri at Soronko Farms near Obomofodensua in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region.

Investigations indicate that the deceased was attacked and stabbed multiple times at his farm cottage on February 13, 2026, shortly after arriving in his vehicle.

The suspect, who allegedly threatened the deceased over a suspected relationship involving his wife, went into hiding after the incident but was later arrested at Kwahu Sikamu near Kwahu Asakraka.

He is currently in police custody assisting investigations, while the Police Service has extended condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of justice.

Four Arrested Over Jewellery Shop Robberies

In a major breakthrough, four suspects have been arrested in connection with a series of armed robberies targeting jewellery shops in Accra and Takoradi between April and October 2025.

The suspects—Abdul Aziz Mamoud (alias Justin Martin), Abubakar Mamoud, Edgar Donkor and Donatus Donkor—were arrested on March 24, 2026, at Anyaa and Osu.

Police identified Abdul Aziz Mamoud, an American national, as the alleged mastermind behind the operations.

The gang is believed to have carried out multiple attacks using similar methods, including smashing glass doors with hammers and stealing gold, silver and diamond jewellery worth millions of Ghana cedis.

Recovered items from the suspects include a toy pistol, motorbikes, masks, gloves, jewellery casings and other equipment, many of which match evidence captured on CCTV footage from the crime scenes.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted to the crimes and mentioned an alleged receiver of the stolen jewellery, who is currently being pursued by police.

Police Reaffirm Commitment

DCOP Grace Ansah-Akrofi commended officers involved in the operations and expressed gratitude to the public for providing credible information.

She urged citizens to remain vigilant, verify information before sharing on social media, and report suspicious activities to the police.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to combating crime and safeguarding public safety, assuring that all perpetrators will be brought to justice.
