The Government of Ghana and the Federal Republic of Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying bilateral cooperation in the fight against cybercrime.
This follows a high-level meeting between Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, and the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Ibok-Ete Ekwe Iban, held in Accra on February 16, 2026.
The discussions centred on the rising incidence of Nigerians implicated in cybercrime-related activities in Ghana and the need for collaborative strategies to address the menace while preserving the longstanding diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Hon. Samuel Nartey George briefed the High Commissioner on the outcomes of Ghana’s recent crackdown on cybercrime and emphasized the government’s determination to safeguard the country’s digital ecosystem. He stressed that while Ghana remains committed to maintaining cordial relations with Nigeria, it will not relent in enforcing its laws to protect citizens and businesses from online fraud and related offences.
Ambassador Ibok-Ete Ekwe Iban expressed concern over the arrests and assured Ghanaian authorities of Nigeria’s readiness to cooperate in tackling the root causes of cybercrime. He underscored the importance of protecting law-abiding Nigerians residing in Ghana and strengthening border security mechanisms to curb cross-border criminal activities.

The High Commissioner further highlighted the strong historical and economic ties between Ghana and Nigeria and urged Nigerians living in Ghana to act as good ambassadors of their country by respecting local laws and contributing positively to society.
Both parties agreed on the need for sustained intelligence sharing, enhanced regulatory collaboration, and joint initiatives aimed at promoting cybersecurity awareness.
The meeting underscored the shared resolve of Ghana and Nigeria to combat cybercrime and ensure a secure and resilient digital environment for their citizens.
