More than 400 pupils of Dabanyi D/A Basic School in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region have received new school uniforms, assorted drinks, mosquito nets and other gifts, following a major donation exercise spearheaded by the Perfect Compassion Initiative in partnership with Leasafric Ghana PLC and other stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Founder of Perfect Compassion Initiative, Lady Perfect Anette Agbemabiese, said the intervention was a strategic investment in the future of children and the nation, rather than a one-off charitable gesture. She explained that education remains the cornerstone of national development, but many children are unable to fully participate in school due to lack of basic necessities such as uniforms and undetected health challenges.

According to her, the donation of uniforms and the provision of comprehensive health screening for pupils were aimed at promoting dignity, equality and inclusion in education, in line with Ghana’s development agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. “A child free from the stigma of lacking a uniform and confirmed to be in good health is a child ready to learn, participate and excel,” she noted, adding that the initiative was also open to partnerships with local and international organisations for sustainable development projects.

The Headmaster of Dabanyi D/A Basic School, Mr. Gilbert Afedzi, expressed profound gratitude for the support, describing it as timely and impactful. He revealed that many parents in the community are farmers and petty traders who struggle to provide school uniforms for their wards, leading to high absenteeism. “Some pupils stay away from school simply because their only uniform has been washed,” he said, stressing that the donation would significantly reduce absenteeism and improve pupils’ confidence and academic performance.

Representing the Gomoa East District Education Unit, Madam Elizabeth Akuribit described the donation as exceptional, noting that it was the first time an NGO had provided uniforms for an entire school, including teachers and the wider community. She appealed to other non-governmental organisations to emulate the initiative by supporting whole schools rather than a few selected pupils, to make distribution easier and more impactful.

On behalf of the corporate partner, Mr. David Kwami Letsu, Head of Business Development at Leasafric Ghana PLC, said the company’s partnership with Perfect Compassion Initiative was driven by its commitment to corporate social responsibility. He explained that Leasafric, which recently marked 30 years of operations in Ghana, supports initiatives that align with its values, particularly those focused on children and vulnerable groups.

Public Relations Officer of Perfect Compassion Initiative, Ms. Yvonne Selase Senagah, explained that the project forms part of the organisation’s annual outreach programmes. She noted that the choice of Dabanyi Basic School was informed by the school’s role in serving four surrounding communities, enabling the initiative to reach a wider population.

The donation exercise was supported by several partners, including Leasafric Ghana PLC, Jabi Foundation, the Ghana Health Service, the Udawata Health Directorate, Ladies in Christ (LIC), and members of the Perfect Compassion Initiative, underscoring a collective commitment to improving access to quality education and child welfare in underserved communities.
