The Ghana Police Service has handed over a bag containing GH¢85,000.00 to its rightful owner after it was found along the Techiman–Kumasi Highway in the Bono East Region.

According to a press release signed by ASP Appiah Danquah, the Bono East Regional Police Command at Techiman received the found bag after alert officers on duty at a snap check point discovered it at about 4:20 a.m. on February 14, 2026.

Police said the bag, which had apparently fallen off a moving vehicle, was spotted lying by the roadside during routine checks. The bag had the name “Ofori” and a phone number written on it.

The duty officers, led by Inspector George Appiah and three other personnel, retrieved the bag and upon inspection realised it contained a large sum of money. The bag was subsequently handed over to the Regional Command for further investigation.

The contact number on the bag was called, and a 53-year-old businessman, Stephen Ofori, from Ashtown in Kumasi responded and later reported to the police to claim ownership.

Mr. Ofori explained that the money, amounting to GH¢85,000.00, was being transported from GCB Bank in Wa to Kumasi via a commercial vehicle when it got missing.

The amount was counted and verified in the presence of the claimant and confirmed to be GH¢85,000.00. After satisfactory explanation and further verification, the police released the full amount to him.

The Regional Command commended the officers involved for their honesty and professionalism, as well as community members who assisted in drawing attention to the found property.
