Ghana’s recent decline on the Global Peace Index has renewed national concern about peace and stability, as the country dropped to 61st out of 163 countries, falling six places from its previous ranking. Ghana has also slipped from 4th to 7th position among the most peaceful countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, a development attributed to rising security challenges, governance issues and localized tensions.
In response to these concerns, the Universal Friendship Organisation (UFO) has intensified its advocacy for peace development through friendship on a global scale. Leading this effort is the organisation’s President, Mr. Samuel Adobah, whose long-standing commitment to peace promotion has earned him international recognition.
Mr. Adobah’s consistent advocacy for peace, understanding, tolerance and unity among diverse communities has drawn the attention of peace-focused institutions worldwide. His efforts were recently acknowledged at the Global Peace Ambassadors Awards, where he was honoured with the Youth Peace Advocacy of the Year award.
The organisers of the awards cited his leadership and dedication to peacebuilding as key factors for the recognition, describing his work as a significant contribution to the pursuit of a more peaceful and united world.

In a message following the award, Mr. Adobah stressed the need for collective responsibility in promoting peace, noting that sustainable peace can only be achieved through the active participation of individuals, communities and institutions. He also expressed concern over the prolonged Bawku conflict, highlighting its devastating human and economic impact and calling for a more inclusive and sustainable approach to conflict resolution.
The Global Peace Ambassadors Awards ceremony brought together individuals and organisations making meaningful contributions to peace and development. Other notable awardees included former Black Stars player Samuel Nkum, renowned musician Madam Akosua Agyapong, and the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South Constituency, Hon. Ernest Adomako, who were all recognised for their roles in advancing peacebuilding efforts.
Mr. Adobah’s recognition underscores the growing impact of the Universal Friendship Organisation’s work in promoting peace and unity. As the organisation continues to champion peace through friendship across borders, stakeholders remain hopeful that such initiatives will contribute to strengthening social cohesion and stability in Ghana and beyond.
