The Ghana Police Service has recorded significant operational successes in its fight against violent crime, armed robbery, cyber-enabled offences and the proliferation of illegal firearms, following sustained intelligence-led operations carried out between November and December 2025.
Addressing the media at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters in Accra, the Director-General of CID, Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, said the achievements form part of a broader national strategy to protect lives, secure property and maintain public safety across the country.
Among the major breakthroughs highlighted was the arrest of a key suspect in the daylight robbery of GH¢7.5 million at Adabraka. The suspect, identified as Salim Mohammed, also known as “Fawatha,” was arrested on 20 November 2025 at a hospital in Ashaiman after months of intelligence gathering. According to preliminary investigations, Mohammed and his accomplices, armed with AK-47 assault rifles, intercepted a vehicle conveying proceeds from a gold transaction to a bank, fired shots to disperse onlookers, injured the driver and fled with the cash. Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accomplices and recover the stolen money.
In a related operation, the Police arrested five members of a notorious phone-snatching and armed robbery syndicate operating in Accra and Tema. The suspects, apprehended between 24 and 26 December 2025 during coordinated intelligence-driven operations in Ashaiman, China Mall and Kasoa, were linked to several robberies across Oyibi, Apollonia, Spintex, Airport Residential Area, East Legon Hills, Zenu, Atadeka, Ashaiman and Kasoa. A pistol and a pump-action gun were recovered. Investigations also connected the group to a violent robbery at the Ashaiman Underbridge, where mourners at a funeral were robbed of cash and valuables worth over GH¢200,000.
The Police further announced the arrest of eight suspects in connection with a violent residential robbery at Apollonia. The suspects, picked up on 8 November 2025, allegedly attacked residents in their homes, ransacked rooms and made away with valuables. Items recovered included helmets, cutlasses, boots and a body armour vest, which are assisting ongoing investigations.
In another intelligence-led operation, a suspect impersonating a military officer was arrested in Accra. The suspect, who had been operating in parts of Ashalaja, Ashanti Bekwai and Kyebi, was found in full military camouflage. Weapons and items retrieved from him included two pistols, live ammunition, a bayonet, handcuffs and military gear. Police believe the suspect used the impersonation to intimidate the public and facilitate criminal activities.
The Service also disclosed the arrest of an arms dealer, Abdullah Ibrahim, on 29 December 2025 in Accra, during an operation aimed at disrupting illegal firearms trafficking. The suspect was arrested while attempting to sell a CZ rifle for GH¢35,000 at Sodom and Gomorrah. Investigations revealed he had previously transported several pump-action guns to the Northern Region. He is currently in custody, assisting police to dismantle a wider illegal arms supply network.
Meanwhile, the CID has secured the conviction of Braima Abubakar Sadiq, also known as “Cyborg,” for unlawfully discharging a firearm in public. The 54-year-old pleaded guilty at the Adenta Circuit Court on 31 December 2025 and was fined GH¢24,000. The court also revoked his firearm licence and ordered the confiscation of the weapon.
COP Donkor used the opportunity to remind the public of the ongoing nationwide amnesty programme, urging citizens to voluntarily surrender illegal or unregistered firearms to avoid prosecution.
In a related development, the Ghana Police Service has assured the public of adequate security arrangements for activities marking 31 December. Speaking on the arrangements, ASP Richmond Mensah said police personnel have been deployed nationwide, with intensified patrols in communities, major towns, entertainment centres and along key highways. Traffic officers have also been stationed at major intersections to ensure smooth flow of vehicles and pedestrians, while special security measures are in place at churches and other public gathering venues.

The Police called on the public to cooperate with officers, remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities through emergency lines 0302773906, 18555, 191 or 112.
The Ghana Police Service wished the public a safe, peaceful and happy New Year, reaffirming its commitment to enforcing the law and safeguarding lives and property as the country enters 2026.
