NDC Unveils 2026 Internal Elections Roadmap, Emphasises Transparency and Grassroots Strengthening

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially launched its 2026 internal reorganisation process, unveiling a comprehensive roadmap for branch, constituency, regional and national elections aimed at strengthening the party’s structures ahead of future electoral contests.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s National Headquarters in Adabraka, Accra, the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, said the exercise was constitutionally mandated and strategically critical to building a strong party capable of providing effective governance.
According to him, the reorganisation comes one year after Ghanaians renewed their mandate in the NDC, and the party remains determined to work harder to fulfil its commitments. He expressed appreciation to polling agents, grassroots executives and national officers for their sacrifices in securing and sustaining the party’s victory.
Mr. Kwetey noted that the party’s constitution requires a reorganisation every four years, with the last exercise conducted in 2022, making 2026 due for another round. He explained that the process would allow existing executives to renew their mandates or make way for new leadership where necessary.
Branch-Level Elections Begin First
Outlining the approved 2026 internal elections roadmap, Mr. Kwetey said the process would begin at the branch level, described as the foundation of the party.
Key activities include the return of branch membership registers between January 30 and February 10, followed by the registration of new members and updating of existing registers from February 10 to March 30. Authentication of registers will take place from April 2 to April 30.
The picking of branch nomination forms is scheduled for May 2 to May 16, with vetting and appeals running from May 20 to June 30. Validation of elected branch executives will conclude the branch process between July 10 and July 30.
He stressed that the integrity of the membership register is non-negotiable, warning that under no circumstances should the membership number of a deceased member be transferred to a new registrant. Any violation, he said, would attract severe sanctions under the party’s constitution.

Constituency, Regional and National Elections
Mr. Kwetey announced that constituency-level elections would follow, beginning with the opening of nominations from September 15 to 17, 2026, and culminating in elections scheduled for October 24 and 25.
Regional elections will take place in October and November 2026, with regional youth and women conferences set for November 13, and regional executive elections scheduled for November 14 and 15.
At the national level, nominations will open from October 20 to 21, 2026, with the filing of nominations in early November. Vetting and appeals will follow, ahead of the National Youth and Women’s Conference on December 12, and the National Delegates Congress on December 19, 2026, to elect national executives.
Measures Against Intimidation
To prevent intimidation and what he described as “mafia activities,” the General Secretary directed all constituency executives to publicly announce and publish official venues and times for branch meetings and elections. Branch elections, he said, must be held at the same venues and times as regular branch meetings, under strict supervision by regional and national executives.
He further announced that plastic NDC membership cards would be issued during registration at a cost of GH¢50, and reiterated that membership registration must be conducted strictly at branch locations, with full transparency and unhindered access for members to verify their details.
“This exercise is not routine. It is deliberate, strategic and consequential,” Mr. Kwetey stated, urging party members to treat the process with the seriousness it deserves as the NDC prepares for the next phase of political competition and governance.
